Introduction
Burkholderia pseudomallei causes the disease Melioidosis; some symptoms are: localized pain, fever, abscess, cough, and weight loss. It is more common in tropical climates, especially Southeast Asia and Australis.
Hosts
It infects humans and animals, sometimes even plants. It is found in contaminated water and soil.
Transmission / Exposure Route
People can get Melioidosis through direct contact with contaminated soil and water. Humans and animals can get the infection by inhaling dust or water droplets, ingesting the water, or having contact with the contaminated soil. It is unlikely to get the disease from other people.
Case Fatality Ratio
In Thailand, the case fatality ratio is approximately 50%.

Generally 1-21 days
Microbiology
a Gram negative, motile rod-shaped bacterium; measures 2-5 micrometers in length and 0.4-0.8 micrometers in diameter, moves using flagella.
Enviromental Survival
Proliferation temperature is reported around 40 degrees Celsius; strive in neutral or slightly acidic environments (around 6.8-7)
